MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Seabird and Penguin Rehab Centre (SAPREC) in Mossdustria, outside Mossel Bay, rehabilitates seabirds, particularly the African penguin.
The centre has been operating for the past 13 years and is run by Carol Walton and a team of volunteers.
SAPREC operates from Still Bay to Herold’s Bay. It is a section 21 non-profit organisation that receives no government funding and is totally dependent on public donations.
As the costs to continue saving the highly endangered African penguin are enormous, SAPREC asks if visitors to Mossel Bay and residents would consider contributing towards this noble cause.
During the holiday season, visitors are welcome to attend the feeding of the penguins at the centre, twice daily. Only small groups will, however, be allowed and arrangements have to be made beforehand by contacting Carol Walton.
Please be aware of stranded or injured birds along the coast and immediately report all strandings to: Carol Walton (082 364 3382) or the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (S.M.A.R.T.) on 072 227 4715.
